Zakat al-Mal
On wealth held for one lunar year above the nisab — cash, gold, business stock and receivables. Paid any time; most people choose a fixed date each year so the lunar year is easy to track.
Most people delay zakat because they are unsure of the sum, not because they are unwilling. The calculator uses the published nisab and shows every step of the arithmetic, so you can check it against your own scholar rather than trust a number that appeared from nowhere.
Distributed within 30 days of receipt, to the eight categories named in the Qur'an, in the district your payment came from unless you choose otherwise. The distribution report reaches you by email, with the numbers.
Three obligations with different rules and different timing. The calculator above covers the first; the other two are simpler and are paid through the same form.

Per person in the household, including children, paid before the Eid prayer. We buy and distribute staple food locally with it rather than sending cash, because that is what the ruling intends.
For missed fasts that cannot be made up, and for oaths broken. The amounts follow the local cost of feeding one person, which we publish and update each Ramadan rather than leaving at last year's figure.
The eight categories are fixed by scripture; the proportions between them are a judgement made annually by our sharia committee and published with the reasoning.
The administrator share is 7% against a permitted eighth (12.5%). The difference is covered by separate sadaqah, which is why we can say every unit of zakat reaches a recipient category.
Zakat delayed is zakat withheld from someone entitled to it, so the clock is published and we are measured against it.
An itemised receipt naming the type of zakat, the amount and the lunar year it covers — the document you keep for your own records.
By default to the district your payment came from, because zakat is local first. You can choose another district in the form, and the receipt records which.
Field teams distribute against a verified household list. Last year the average was 19 days; the slowest district was 27.
How much went to each category, in which district, with the household count. Not a thank-you letter with a photograph — the numbers.
An external audit of the zakat account and a published review by the sharia committee, including any case where a distribution was found to be outside the eight categories.
Money you expect to be repaid is counted, which is why "receivables" is a field in the calculator. Money owed by someone who cannot realistically repay is not counted until you actually receive it. If you are unsure which case you are in, that is a question for a scholar, not for a form.
Both are used by scholars. Silver is far lower today, so it brings more people into obligation and results in more zakat being paid — many scholars prefer it for that reason. The calculator defaults to gold and lets you switch, and the published figures for both are updated daily from the closing price.
Not the home you live in or the car you use. Property bought to resell is business stock and counts at market value; property held to rent is generally not counted, though the rental income sitting in your account is. Pensions vary by scheme and are the most common reason to ask a scholar.
Yes. Many people pay monthly across the year against an estimate and settle the difference on their zakat date. The receipt records each payment against the same lunar year so your own accounting stays straight.
To a district, yes, in the form. To a named family, no — that requires verification we cannot do fairly, and it tends to leave the least-connected households last. If you know a specific eligible person, giving to them directly is valid and you do not need us for it.
Because the administrator category is itself one of the eight, and our share of it (7%) is below the permitted eighth. The rest of the organisation — fundraising, this website, the office — is funded by separate sadaqah donations, and those accounts are published side by side so you can check the claim rather than believe it.
Bank transfer, card or e-wallet. The receipt and the intention record arrive within the hour, and the distribution report follows within sixty days.
