$120 below retail, permanently
Reserving now is the only time this pack costs $219. When the run reaches the shop it is $339, and we do not discount later — that would be a tax on the people who backed it first.
The MERIDIAN Field 40 is cut from recycled sailcloth, welded rather than stitched at every seam that carries load, and made in a single production run. Reserve a place in that run for $39 and pay the balance only when it ships.
A $39 deposit locks the pre-order price of $219 instead of $339 at retail, and reserves your colour. Fully refundable until the run is cut.
A single run means no warehouse, no clearance sale, and no colour that exists because a buyer guessed. It also means you wait — which is the honest trade, so here is exactly what you get for it.

Dune Sand ran out in eleven days last time. A deposit holds your colour against the cutting plan, not against a general pool that gets allocated by whoever checks out fastest.
Change your mind any time before 14 May 2027 and the deposit comes back in full, no questions and no email chain. After that date the fabric is committed and so are we.
Everyone in the run gets the production log: cutting, welding, quality gates, and the photographs from the line — including the week we lost to a failed zip batch, if that happens again.
Zips, buckles and shoulder straps are replaced free for five years, posted to you with instructions. Everything on this pack is field-replaceable with a screwdriver.
40 litres at 54 × 35 × 23 cm, measured against the published limits of eleven airlines including the strict ones. The frame collapses if a gate agent insists on the sizer.
Every figure below was measured on the production sample, not the prototype. Where a number is a range, it is because the fabric roll varies and we would rather print the range than the flattering end of it.

Dates move in manufacturing. When one moves here, everyone in the run is emailed the same day with the reason — before the date passes, not after.
Sixty-two testers carried it for eight weeks. Two changes came out of it: the hip belt was widened by 18 mm and the water-bottle pocket was rebuilt so a 1-litre bottle stops falling out when you bend.
The full sailcloth roll for 900 units is bought and in the factory. This is the step that makes the run finite: there is no second roll from the same batch.
You are here. 641 of 900 places taken. When the last one goes, or the date arrives, this page closes and the cutting plan is finalised.
Four weeks on the line. Production photographs go out weekly to everyone holding a place, including anything that goes wrong.
You pay the remaining $180 only once your pack physically exists and has passed the load test. No balance is taken from anyone whose unit fails inspection.
Tracked worldwide, duties prepaid to the EU, UK, US, Canada, Australia and Singapore. Everywhere else ships DDU with the paperwork attached.
Every tier is the same pack from the same run. What changes is how much you commit now and what comes with it.
Prices exclude local sales tax, shown at balance payment. Deposits are refundable in full until the fabric is cut on 14 May 2027 — after that, a reservation can still be transferred to someone else at no cost.
We asked testers for the thing they would change, not for a compliment. These three answers are printed as they were written.
"I flew eleven segments with it and was never asked to check it. The frame is the reason — pull the stay out and it squashes into the sizer, put it back and it carries 14 kg without pulling on my shoulders."
"The water bottle pocket was genuinely bad on the prototype — mine fell out on a train platform twice. They rebuilt it and sent me the new panel to test. That is the part that made me trust the run."
"Four stars, not five: it is not a hiking pack and the marketing should keep saying so. For three weeks of trains, hostels and one office a week, I have not found anything I would swap it for."
If yours is not here, message us and we will answer it in a day — and add it to this list if someone else is likely to ask it too.
The $39 deposit is charged when you complete the reservation. The remaining $180 is charged only after your specific unit has been made and passed inspection, which we expect in July 2027. If your unit fails inspection, no balance is taken and you keep your place in the next run.
You are emailed the reason and the new date before the old one passes. If a delay pushes shipping past October 2027, every reservation becomes refundable again in full, including the ones made after the cutting date — that is a written term, not a goodwill gesture.
Yes, until the cutting plan is finalised on 14 May 2027, and only into a colour that still has places. After the plan is locked, the fabric for your unit is already allocated and a swap would cost someone else their pack.
In full, to the original payment method, until 14 May 2027. Reply to your reservation email with the word "refund" and it is processed the same working day. After that date you can transfer your place to another person free of charge instead.
Not of this pack in these colours. The sailcloth is a single batch and the colour is dyed to that batch. A future pack may share the frame and the hardware, but it will be a different product with a different name — we do not re-run and then discount.
We ship worldwide with tracking. Duties and import taxes are prepaid for the EU, UK, US, Canada, Australia and Singapore, so nothing is collected at your door. Everywhere else ships with the commercial invoice attached and local duty is payable on delivery.
Thirty-nine dollars holds your colour and your place. It comes back in full any time before the fabric is cut, so the only thing you are committing to today is the right to change your mind.
