Intake 2027/28 · registration open

192 places, three routes, and every requirement published.

Everything a family needs to decide is on this page: what each route asks for, what it costs in the first year, when the dates fall, and what happens if the answer is no. No form to fill in before you can see the fees.

192Places for 2027/28
24Pupils per class, maximum
38Scholarship places

Last year 419 families applied for 186 places. If your child is not offered a place, the letter says which route they were assessed under and where they sat, and a waiting list runs until the end of June.

Routes, requirements and what the first year costs

Pick the route you are considering. Each one has its own documents, its own assessment and its own fee table — including the parts that are payable once and the parts that are monthly.

General route

Open to any pupil finishing primary school this year. Places are offered on the assessment day result and the interview, in that order, with no consideration of when you registered.

  • School reports for the last four terms — scans are fine at registration.
  • A letter from the current school confirming the pupil is completing year six.
  • Two photographs, and a health note only if there is a condition the school should know about.

The dates

Six dates for the whole cycle

Published in October and not moved. If a date has to change, every registered family is messaged before it passes rather than after.

About the school

Three things worth knowing before you choose

Written for parents comparing four schools this month, so they are the things that actually differ between them.

Classes capped at 24

Written into the school's own rules rather than a target. When a year group fills, we open a class or we stop admitting — we have never split the difference by putting 31 children in a room.

Reports parents can read

Three a year, in sentences rather than only numbers, and each one names something the pupil found difficult. A report with no weakness in it tells a family nothing.

Fees fixed for three years

The monthly tuition on this page is held for the whole of lower secondary for pupils entering in 2027. Increases apply to new intakes, never mid-way through a family's three years.

Parents ask

Six questions from last year's intake

No, and we say so because several schools nearby work differently. Places are offered on the assessment result and the interview. Registering early only means your documents are checked sooner, which is useful if something is missing.

You choose one route at registration, but if your child is not offered a place on the merit or scholarship route they are automatically considered on the general route with the same assessment result. Nobody has to register twice or sit anything twice.

Three short papers: reading comprehension, mathematics to the year-six curriculum, and a written piece on a given topic. Past papers from the last three years are on the school website, free, and no coaching course is needed or recommended.

Income and the assessment result are weighted together, not one after the other. A pupil does not need a top result to receive a full award, and a high household income cannot be offset by a high score. Awards are reviewed annually but never withdrawn mid-year.

The enrolment fee can be split across three months on request, without interest and without a form — a phone call to the office is enough. Tuition is monthly already. No pupil has ever been sent home over a late payment, and the office will always talk first.

The letter gives the result and, where relevant, your position on the waiting list, which moves every year as confirmed places lapse. You may also ask to see the assessment papers and talk them through with a teacher — twelve families did that last year and four of them applied again successfully the following intake.
